Innumerable stories of the perils and pleasures of yesteryear’s peoples unfold as layer upon layer of deposits reveal fascinating secrets of the tides, temperatures and living conditions of those early times. Later Stone Age pastoralists, believed to be the Khoekhoen\/Khoikhoi, already kept sheep, and probably even cattle and dogs, in this area as early as 2 000 years ago. \r\n\r\nThey chiselled tools such as “needles” and “spatulas” out of bone to create ornaments, shell beads and pendants.
