atiu-villas-85383
Atiu Villas

Set among pineapple fields and tropical garden on the edge of Atiu's villages, Atiu Villas looks down a jungle valley toward the ocean. The six chalet-style villas were built from local timber, a legacy of the sawmill the founding family ran when the first villa opened in December 1980. Each is self-contained, with its own verandah, kitchen, and separate bathroom, set apart within its own patch of garden. Every villa comes with a stocked larder of bread, eggs, cheese, and canned goods, restocked as needed, along with a bowl of seasonal fruit left in the room. The Family Villa adds a lounge and two bedrooms; the Standard Villa is a studio with a queen and single bed. You can hear the property before you see much of it, birdsong through the trees and, at the right tide, the sea beyond the valley. Kura's Kitchen, the on-site restaurant named for one of the original owners, serves a two-course dinner most evenings at a long communal table, so guests tend to end up talking. There is a licensed bar, a pool with a wood-fired barbecue beside it, and the only grass tennis court in the southern Cook Islands. A tour desk arranges caving, hiking, and cultural outings across the island. Wi-Fi is free and unlimited. The property has been run by the same family since it opened, now in its fifth decade on Atiu.
