Camp 1
Karanga Camp sits at 4000m, so only 100m higher altitude than the previous camp and night at Barranco. This is done purposely, of course, to have your body acclimatize further. Have no illusions of an easy time getting to Karanga though as you will have taken on the famous Barranco Wall. A 300m vertical climb that uses a diagonal path to the top. Quite a bit of scrambling and you certainly earn the right to be tired, though for many it is also one of the most enjoyable and rewarding days hiking.
Please do scroll through the imagery below and more importantly please do watch DAY 5 of our own Kilimanjaro video story. It is an accurate and real climb account of what to expect through the eyes of the group that climbed in September 2018. The video is just under 3 minutes.
