The family suite adds a mezzanine level with twin beds for children aged six and above, plus a second bathroom. Traditional stonework and thatch roofs define the architecture.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe lodge sits in a thirty-six-thousand-hectare private reserve in the shadow of the Waterberg mountains, three hours north of Johannesburg. Welgevonden is malaria-free and home to more than sixty-five mammal species, including lion, elephant, rhino, leopard, and buffalo. Twice-daily drives depart with a ranger in open safari vehicles; evening drives extend after dark to track nocturnal species. Sundowners are served on drives. You can watch elephants mud-bathe at the waterhole from the shaded veranda or the pool deck.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe lodge has a communal lounge, a pool, and a bar.
