Designer Ilse Crawford has worked on the property since the start, and her hand shows in the restraint: pale walls, soft daylight, furniture chosen rather than supplied. It is a small hotel, just twelve rooms. Bedrooms lean toward a bright, almost bleached palette, what the house itself calls a summery whiteness of light. Behind the building, a courtyard garden functions as a kind of hidden clearing in the city, used for breakfast in summer and for a glass of wine once the light drops. The kitchen sits at the centre of daily life here, serving lunch and dinner to guests and outsiders alike on request, and the house can be booked in part or in full for dinners, receptions or work events. There is a yoga shala, and staff arrange massages, facials and personal training on request. You can feel the difference from a standard hotel almost immediately: no obvious front desk energy, just a house that happens to take guests.
