The gallery is home to the Grootbos Florilegium, the first contemporary African florilegium. It holds over 200 original artworks that celebrate Cape fynbos and the Cape Floral Kingdom of the southern Overberg, and record rare, endemic and endangered plants.
Thirty-five artists from South Africa, Zimbabwe, Réunion and the United Kingdom contributed, joined by nine more from the Netherlands, Brazil, USA, Japan, Germany, South Korea and Italy.
It works as a quiet counterpart to the safaris and hikes: guests who have walked among the plants can see them recorded in detail. It also suits wet or windy days when outdoor activities are less appealing.
