In Ngwesi Swimming Pool

Constructed entirely from local materials, the award-winning Il Ngwesi Lodge is perched on the edge of the Mararoi Hills, close to the Ngare Ndare River in the Laikipia region of Kenya, with breathtaking views towards Samburu as far as the eye can see. Truly special, this award-winning enterprise combines eco-tourism with sustainable environmental management and community development. IlngwesiIlngwesi

This is one of the only lodges in Kenya to be one hundred per cent owned and run by the community — in this case, the Mukogodo Maasai — with all proceeds going back into the local people. Staying here is not simply a safari; it is an investment in a remarkable conservation story

IL Ngwesi eco Lodge is adjacent to Ngare ndare river commanding panoramic views across Northern Kenya. The community-run lodge looks out over the vast landscape of Kenya's Northern Frontier District – over unspoiled land where not a single light shines out and only the chorus of African bush is heard both day and night
IL Ngwesi set the pace for Laikipia’s ecotourism and has become a role model for upcoming community eco-lodges in East Africa. This small piece of paradise, perched between peak and plain, possesses a magic which cannot fail to touch anyone who is lucky enough to experience it.
Constructed from local material the award winning Lodge can accommodate up to seventeen people in six thatched, open-plan cottages, with adjoining open air showers, positioned to ensure both fantastic views and privacy. Two of the rooms have an extended deck where beds are rolled out for a night under African stars. It has a large sitting area, a striking swimming pool with an ideal lunch venue, overlooking the waterhole.
The open bush Bandas offers unforgettable views of the vast surrounding landscape and comfort, while relaxing at the horizon pool lets guests watch wildlife come to drink at the watering hole.
