Island Bush Camp – Remote, Authentic, Untamed
Island Bush Camp is one of the three intimate properties owned and operated by Ron & Anke Cowan of Kafunta Safaris, alongside Kafunta River Lodge and Three Rivers Camp, all located in Zambia’s renowned South Luangwa National Park.
Set 2.5 hours south of Kafunta River Lodge (approx. 3.5 hours from Mfuwe Airport), Island Bush Camp is situated in a remote and game-rich area of the southern park. Here, in complete solitude far from other vehicles or camps, guests enjoy morning and afternoon walking safaris and game drives, immersed in one of the wildest corners of South Luangwa.
This seasonal and off-grid camp rests beneath a grove of mahogany trees on the banks of the Luangwa River. It features just five elevated, open-sided reed chalets, each with a private verandah, bucket showers, and running water—offering a truly authentic bush experience with comfort and simplicity in harmony.
Island Bush Camp focuses primarily on guided bush walks led by expert safari guides. Its proximity to Three Rivers Camp allows for walking safaris between the two camps, creating a rare opportunity for deeper immersion in the wilderness.
The camp is solar-powered, with charging facilities available in the main area.
