Most of the grandmothers who attend our field kitchen for lunch still work 15 hours a day in the field tending their gardens.   From small plots of land they grow vegetables.   But it is never enough and so our soup kitchen is vital for their support.  These grandmothers have the responsibility for caring for very young children at the centre and often there is not enough food to go around.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe associated school is also an important community facility.  Our visitors will be engaged not only with children but in meeting the grandparents as One Horizon’s work involves at Kikuyu involves the very young and the very old.  Food parcels are distributed at the centre to ensure that children and their grandparents receive regular nutrition.
