The Kichwa community built it from local timber and manages it still, staffing kitchens, boats, and trails with people who grew up on this river. Guides are Kichwa naturalists, trained by elders rather than manuals. Rooms are safari-style tents on raised platforms, each with a bed, a chair, and a hammock strung for the river view; two shared bathroom blocks serve the camp. Meals come from local produce and are eaten together in an open dining house, with a bar and lounge alongside. Being inside the park itself means no long transfer by road. Guests arrive by motorised canoe, over an hour from the nearest track, and from then on the day runs on forest time. Activities include kayaking through oxbow lakes, night walks for nocturnal wildlife, piranha fishing, and canoe trips to spot river otters, pink dolphins, and anaconda. Yasuni holds more than 600 bird species and over 170 mammals within its 9,800 km² of forest, and sightings at the lodge itself are common. Every stay funds conservation and education work run by the Kichwa community that owns the land.
