Rhubarb, the hotel's restaurant, occupies a run of period rooms hung with red damask and stocked with an eclectic art collection. There is a whisky bar too, and private dining rooms set aside for smaller parties. Outside, twenty acres of grounds wrap the house in green. Highland cattle and peacocks roam the grounds. You can walk the gardens, take a drink on the terrace, or simply watch the peacocks cross the lawn. The grounds are large enough to land a helicopter, and parking is free. Holyrood Park lies next door, and the Royal Mile and Edinburgh's main shopping streets are a short drive away, so the house functions as a quiet base with the city close at hand.
