{"product_id":"riad-dar-kawa-marrakesh-morocco","title":"Riad Dar Kawa","description":"\u003cp\u003eDar Kawa is a house built at the turn of the 17th century, once the zaouïa of Derkaoua, a religious building raised by a brotherhood of that name. Its walls held prayer and meditation among Saadian architecture, and something of that quiet has stayed. Valérie Barkowski acquired the house in 1999 and had it restored by Belgian architect Quentin Wilbaux, a specialist in the Marrakech medina, with the original structure kept intact. Work has continued since in small annual measures, always with cedar for the woodwork and cement tiles underfoot. The result is one suite and two junior suites, each with its own bathroom and dressing room, arranged around a courtyard shaded by orange trees. A daybed heaped with cushions anchors the patio. On the rooftop terrace, part covered and part open, guests can take lunch or dinner depending on the season and watch the medina settle into evening over tea or a cocktail. Bed and bath linens throughout are designed by Barkowski and made by hand. The riad sits in the old town between the spice market and the Medersa Ben Youssef, close to a communal oven and a hammam. During school and public holidays it is let only as a single booking, for up to twelve people across its rooms.
