Shamara Alpacas

Shamarra Alpaca farm, located on the western side of Akaroa Harbour, and only 20 minutes from Akaroa, is home to a herd of over 100 alpacas. The farm offers breathtaking panoramic views from the Akaroa Heads to the south, and all the way to Barry’s Bay at the north end of the harbor.

The friendly alpacas are in pens, for visitors to get up close to and appreciate their unique characteristics and ultra fine fleece. A few alpacas are on halters, and visitors will have an opportunity to lead an alpaca. After a hands on fiber presentation, visitors can take a wander around the paddocks and enjoy the majestic creatures grazing contentedly in their natural environment.

Enjoy a beverage and home baked biscuits while browsing the Alpaca Shop. A selection of luxurious alpaca garments and accessories made from fiber from the alpacas and exclusive to Shamarra are for sale.
