sharavathi-adventure-camp-63045
Sharavathi Adventure Camp

Set on a hillock above the Talakalale Reservoir, Sharavathi Adventure Camp looks out over open water rather than a beach, its shoreline shaped by the dammed Sharavathi river rather than tide. The camp sits six kilometres from Jog Falls, where the river drops 830 feet in four named cascades: Raja, Rani, Rocket and Roarer. Eighteen cottages, most standard and two with air conditioning, plus one special cottage, face the reservoir through a cover of Western Ghats forest. Guests can take out a coracle or kayak on the reservoir, or fish along its edge. Birdlife is dense here: kingfishers, hoopoes, hornbills and pond herons work the shallows, and black-naped hares and Malabar giant squirrels move through the surrounding trees. Mornings often bring mist off the water, and a short walk or drive reaches Jog Falls before the day's heat sets in. Evenings run to soup and snacks by the dining hall, then a documentary screening before dinner. It is a compact stay, built around water and forest rather than lawns or a pool. Monsoon months, June to November, bring the falls to full force and turn the Ghats green; the drier stretch from October to March suits swimming, boating and the short hike up to the viewpoint. The nearest railhead is at Talaguppa, with Shivamogga the closest domestic airport.
