The change in the water is immediate and visible: the broad, slow river becomes fast and turbulent as the walls close in. Elephant, buffalo, hippo, giraffe, lion and crocodile all live in the park, and the open terrain means animals are often visible to a helicopter when they would be hidden from a vehicle on the ground.
