There are five en-suite rooms — two doubles, one twin, and two that can be set as either — sleeping ten in total. The lodge has no mains electricity: evenings run on candles, paraffin lamps, and solar lights, and in winter a log fire burns in the main room. Dinner is a three-course set menu, eaten together by candlelight.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAbout three and a half kilometres of trails wind through the property. Birds are present throughout, including the white-winged apalis, the crimson wing, and the double-coloured forest sunbird, which feeds from flowers close enough to the veranda to watch without moving. During the rainy season, orchids appear along the trails. Hikers who want to reach the plateau itself can do so on foot from the lodge — allow an hour and a half for the climb — or drive up in twenty-five minutes.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe lodge is run by Tom and Petal, who also operate TREEZ, a registered conservation project working on the slopes of the plateau through tree planting, fire prevention, and sponsorship of local community sports teams. Guests can visit the project during their stay.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eZomba town is about twenty-five minutes by road. Liwonde National Park is roughly an hour away.
