UCP: agent-ready checkout on an open standard

Universal Commerce Protocol is an open standard for agentic commerce, co-developed by Shopify and Google and documented at ucp.dev. It defines how a shopper's agent can discover products, check availability, and reach checkout across participating stores, regardless of which platform built them.

That openness matters more than it sounds. Agent commerce could easily collapse into a handful of closed platforms, each agent locked to one store's proprietary format. An open standard is the alternative: a shopper's agent should be able to transact on any participating store, not just one company's walled garden.

Plekify's place in this is specific. For hotels joined through Apaleo, Plekify publishes live availability and rates as UCP extensions, under the com.plekify namespace — com.plekify availability and com.plekify rates. These extensions are sourced from the same Apaleo-pms-joined view that feeds the hotel's own Shopify storefront, so what an agent sees matches what a guest sees.

The checkout itself stays on Shopify. Agent-ready checkout does not mean a separate agent-only flow — it means an agent can hand a shopper off to the hotel's real, on-domain commerce experience, the same one built for every other channel.

This is early infrastructure, not a finished agent-booking pipeline. See the com.plekify extensions live at the Plekify demo store.
