A Quinta da Auga Hotel Spa
Check-in happens inside a converted 18th-century paper mill, one of the first eco-hotels in Spain, set beside the Rio Sar on the edge of Santiago de Compostela. The building keeps its old bones: exposed timber, mansard ceilings on the top floor, and views over the river and the old mill channel that once powered it. No two rooms match. Each is furnished with antiques and contemporary pieces chosen by hand, from the 30 m² Doble Clásica to the 100 m² Gran Suite, whose nine windows look onto the river and the Galician woods beyond. Several rooms carry raised jacuzzis set beside the window, and marble bathrooms lit by daylight rather than bulbs. The spa occupies the top floor, under a glass roof that floods the space with light. A private spa wing, booked separately, takes up to eight people and is the only way to bring children under 16 into the circuit. Downstairs, Restaurant Filigrana works Atlantic fish and Galician produce under chef Federico López Arcay. The Camino de Santiago runs close by, and central Santiago de Compostela sits a short drive away.
