Ranthambore National Park begins at the edge of the property, and the day starts early here: naturalists lead guests out on safari before sunrise to track tigers, sloth bears and leopards across the park's dry forest and lake country. Aranya Vilas holds just five stone villas, so the gate never feels crowded before a drive. Each Luxury Stone Villa runs to 800 square feet, with a king bedroom, a separate living room, a dressing area, twin vanities and its own verandah facing the grounds. Meals are vegetarian and organic, grown on the property's own farm and served on a seasonal menu that shifts through the year. You can hear the jungle close in after dark, when the villas' lights are the only ones for some distance. Beyond the park gates, Ranthambore Fort rises above the plain, its ramparts giving views over the lakes and forest below; the Raj Bagh ruins sit further in, half taken back by trees.
