Abisko Mountain Lodge
Set two minutes from Abisko East Train Station and close to the Aurora Sky Station, Abisko Mountain Lodge works as a base for the mountains that surround it rather than a destination in itself. Rooms are plain and warm, each with a private bathroom and Wi-Fi. Cottages add kitchenettes and their own toilet, useful for longer stays or self-catering after a day outdoors. The lodge sits near Abisko National Park, where a river cuts through a canyon worth the short trip alone; guides lead walks along it most mornings. A restaurant serves a seasonal menu built on local ingredients, and the lounge bar stays open through the day, with a fire, board games, and a large screen for slow evenings. There is a sauna for the cold months. Staff arrange the rest: dog sledding, snowshoe outings, snowmobile tours, ice climbing, ice fishing on the nearby lake, and evening trips out to look for the northern lights, which draw visitors here through the darkest part of winter. Spring brings longer light and still enough snow for ski touring. Autumn is quieter, the hills turn red-orange, and the aurora sometimes shows again before the season properly winds down.
