Achiotte by Masaya

Achiotte by Masaya Collection is a stone hotel set in the centre of Barichara, a colonial town in Santander declared a national heritage site. The building uses tapia pisada, the rammed-earth construction typical of the region, paired with local stone walls and garden courtyards. Rooms range from standard and superior categories to junior suites, suites and family rooms, each with a private bathroom, a flat-screen television, a safe and a refrigerator. A pool sits within the garden. The restaurant and bar serve regional dishes, and there is a dedicated massage area for guests wanting a slower pace. It is a quiet base, not a party hotel. Breakfast is included and Wi-Fi runs free throughout the property. An airport shuttle and room service round out the practical side of the stay. Outside the gate, Barichara's main park, cathedral and cobbled streets sit within walking distance, along with the Bioparque Móncora and several lookout points over the surrounding hills. The old royal road to Guane, a walking route past fossils and colonial-era farms, starts nearby. Guests can also book a painting workshop using natural pigments or a tobacco tour on a traditional farm. Reception stays open until 10pm, useful after an evening walk through town.
