Afrikiko River Front Resort
Riverfront chalets and poolside rooms on the Volta, near Akosombo dam
Set along the Volta River at Akosombo, Afrikiko River Front Resort takes its name from the water at its door. The river runs wide and calm here, backed by the hills that hold Lake Volta, and the resort's chalets, poolside rooms and courtyard units all face some version of that view. Rooms come with air conditioning, Wi-Fi and private bathrooms; the Executive category adds more space and a family option. It is a working riverside base, not a strip of sand, and the pool sits close enough to the water that the two blur from a lounger. A restaurant serves grilled tilapia and chicken alongside jollof and fried rice, and the bar stays open through the day. Guests can take a boat cruise on the Volta or walk the trails of the small island opposite the property. Fishing gear and a children's playground are on site, and the grounds have hosted weddings under a riverside tent. Akosombo's hydroelectric dam, which created Lake Volta, lies nearby, and Wli Waterfalls and the Tafi-Atome monkey sanctuary make manageable day trips from the resort. Check-in is straightforward and the property takes both cash and cards.
