Afro Divers Lodge

Pemba Island sits close to Zanzibar but sees far fewer visitors, and Afro Divers Lodge is built around that difference. The lodge holds ten rooms in total, two superior and eight standard, each with air conditioning and a private bathroom. A 15-metre pool runs along one side of the property, and a bar looks straight out over the water. It is a compact stay. The restaurant serves guests returning from the reefs, which lie close enough that boat trips do not eat into the diving day. Pemba's coral is largely undived compared with its neighbour, and the lodge's own boats reach sites where other operators rarely appear. Beyond diving, the property works as a base for combining Pemba with a mainland safari or a Kilimanjaro climb, using domestic flights routed through Arusha and Zanzibar. Staff arrange transfers for each leg of a trip, whether that means a car to the airport or a flight booked around a hiking schedule. The setting itself does the rest of the work: quiet water, a slower pace than Zanzibar's tourist strip, and reef access that does not require a long crossing. Rooms are simple rather than showy, built for divers who spend most daylight hours in the water and want a clean, cool place to return to. Check-in and logistics are handled directly with the lodge.
