Stepping off the private transfer from Rovaniemi, guests arrive at a resort built around Lake Palojärvi rather than a single grand building. Forest View Deluxe rooms come with desks, flat-screen televisions and safes; an Aurora Treehouse upgrade puts guests in a lakeview cottage raised on a 3-metre pillar among the evergreens. The spa runs a thermal suite, a steam room, Himalayan salt beds and a lakeside Finnish sauna, all with unlimited access for resort guests. It is a working balance of comfort and cold water.
Activity is the point here, not the sofa. Days can run from forest yoga and guided Shinrin-Yoku walks to stand-up paddleboarding under the Midnight Sun, fat bike rides through the forest, and a sauna boat cruise across the lake in a wood-stove-heated craft. A nutritionist designs and reviews a personal meal plan across longer stays, and treatments include a volcanic hot stone massage and a floating sound bath. You can also head out after dark with an aurora hunter for a Lappish barbecue by the fire, weather and solar activity permitting.
Dining runs through an on-site restaurant serving local and Asian dishes. Check-in includes an orientation and a slow forest walk; departure runs the same route in reverse, back to Rovaniemi's airport or station, about 40 minutes away.
