Alila Dalit Bay Sabah

Laid out across 400 tropical acres on Sabah's northern coast, Dalit Bay Golf & Country Club was built to frame the land rather than fight it, with the Tambalang and Mengkabong rivers marking its boundaries and Mount Kinabalu rising behind the fairways. The course runs to eighteen holes of championship length, threading past mangrove wetlands, rocky outcrops and stands of nibong palm rather than manicured parkland alone. Hole four sends golfers over a wooden bridge to an island green ringed by wetland vegetation. It is a short, sharp test. The eleventh, the club's signature hole, plays along the South China Sea, where the tee sits exposed to the water and the approach must clear the Tambalang river mouth before reaching a bunkered green. Wind off the sea complicates several holes on the back nine, particularly the tenth and eighteenth, both flanked by water down the right. Caddies are compulsory and accompany each group for the round, a service the club treats as part of the game rather than an add-on. Riders can walk one to three kilometres over the round, past waste bunkers, mounds and hollows that keep the terrain uneven underfoot. Golf lessons run alongside standard play, taught on site by a resident instructor. The result reads less as a resort amenity than as a course shaped deliberately around its rivers, sea frontage and the mountain beyond.
