Almières Retreat

Set above the Tarn gorges on a limestone plateau in the Grands Causses, Almières Retreat occupies a stone hamlet built as a farmhouse in the 18th century and rewired, over a three-year restoration, as a small retreat. Roofs are laid in local lauze stone, curved with age. There is no wifi. Five suites range from 40 to 65 m², each with a different outlook, onto a lime tree, a moorland, or the surrounding rock; a lodge of 70 m² adds its own terrace and a wide view over the causse. A shared farmhouse, the Casa Santiago, offers two simpler bedrooms with a common bathroom. Mornings and evenings are given to Hatha and Yin yoga, Qi Gong, and fascial work; a sauna and hot bath sit in a converted cattle shed. Meals are vegetarian and largely local, built around live and organic produce. Sound baths and meditative concerts run alongside seasonal workshops on wild plants, natural medicine, and birdlife. Stays run Wednesday to Sunday, in groups capped at six to twelve guests. At dusk, you can hear almost nothing but wind moving across open ground.
