Altes Forsthaus Braunlage
The Harz Hotel Altes Forsthaus Braunlage is the oldest building in town, raised in 1658 in the timbered style typical of the region. Braunlage's centre is a short walk away. In winter, guests can reach the ski lift and a children's toboggan run on foot. The hotel keeps things plain and practical: free parking out front, free Wi-Fi, and rooms with hairdryers, safes and televisions. Two children under 12 stay free in a parent's room, and dogs are allowed at no charge. It stays open to non-guests as well as residents, with a terrace and a small play corner for families. Half-board is offered as an à la carte option rather than a fixed menu, giving guests a choice at every meal. Wernigerode, about half an hour by car, adds a summer festival programme at its castle. The Wurmberg's summer runs to mountain carts and scooters; winter turns the same slopes to cross-country trails and a skating rink nearby.
