Amangani

Amangani is set on a bluff in the foothills above Jackson Hole, facing the Teton range. The name means peaceful home, and the building keeps to that brief: long lines of timber and sandstone set low against the ridge, so the mountains stay the dominant shape on the horizon. Opened in 1998, it was Aman's first US property and remains the brand's mountain base in Wyoming. Rooms are spacious. Each carries air conditioning, heating and a television, standard enough elsewhere but notable here given the altitude and the winters. A pool sits above the valley, alongside a hot tub and a lounge for slowing down after a day outdoors. Guests can also use steam rooms scented with eucalyptus and a gym with valley views. The on-site restaurant serves meals through the day, and the bar is a fair spot to end one, drink in hand, watching light change over the peaks. Jackson itself lies close by, a short drive down into the valley, so the lodge works equally as a base for skiing, hiking or simply looking at the Tetons from a fixed, comfortable point. It is not a large property, and the scale suits the setting: a modern structure that keeps its distance from the mountains, rather than competing with them.
