Amankora Paro Lodge

Most Amankora journeys begin or end here. Amankora Paro is the lodge at the western edge of the group's five-lodge chain through Bhutan's valleys, set at 2,250 metres and screened by pine forest in the Paro Chuyul area. The building reads as a study in contrast: wood-clad walls meet black steel panelling, a rustic frame holding a distinctly modern interior. Twenty-four suites make up the lodge. Each has a king-size bed, a traditional wood-burning stove, and a banquette seat built into the window frame, so guests can sit with a view of the trees rather than just look through glass. Bathrooms carry terrazzo-clad tubs and double vanities, with the toilet and shower kept in their own separate space. The scale stays intentionally small. Hiking and cycling routes lead straight out from the lodge into the surrounding valley, and the forest setting means the terrain does most of the work sensory-wise: pine resin in the air, cold mountain light through the trees. It is a quiet base rather than a spectacle, built for arrival after a flight in or departure before one out. Suites are ready from 3pm, and the lodge functions as one stop within Aman's wider Bhutan itinerary, linking onward to the group's other four valley lodges.
