Ambre

Waking to the Indian Ocean lapping just beyond the terrace, guests at Ambre find the day already set: a coral-reef lagoon on one side, tropical gardens on the other, and roughly 750 metres of white sand between them. The resort sits on the east coast at Belle Mare, in the Flacq district, and takes adults only. It is a compact world in that sense, built for couples and pairs of friends rather than families. Rooms number 297 in total, arranged from Superior rooms in the northern wing to the Ambre Suite, which adds a separate bedroom and living area with sea views from a private balcony. Three restaurants cover the range from buffet breakfasts and Mauritian curry nights at Indigo to Italian plates at Dolce Vita and seafood grills at La Plage, closed Sundays. A spa offers steam room, sauna and jacuzzi alongside treatments, with two ocean-facing gazebos for outdoor massage. Water sport is free and unstructured — kayaks, windsurfers, paddleboards and a glass-bottom boat are there to be taken out on a whim. Golfers get unlimited green fees at Ile aux Cerfs, the Bernhard Langer course reachable only by boat from Pointe Maurice jetty. Evenings run to karaoke at the H&H Lounge or a cocktail at Ti-Bar, mixed with local spices by the resident mixologue. Check-in guests will find the pace deliberately slow.
