Amilla Maldives Resort & Residences

Amilla is a private island in the Baa Atoll, set within a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and fringed by the Snapper and Fusilier reefs. It opened in 2014 as an independently owned Maldivian resort, with fewer villas than is typical for the region and more space between them. Fifty-nine villas and three residences sit across sand, lagoon, and jungle, each with a private pool. The Reef Water Pool Villa hangs directly over the reef at 220 m², with private steps down into the water for snorkellers. The Treetop Pool Villa is built into the canopy, with a glass-walled pool suspended above the ground and a path leading down to a dedicated stretch of beach. Guests can join the round-island track, a 3 km loop through jungle shade used for running, walking, and cycling. The house reef was ranked among the region's top ten by a travel publication, and snorkelling trips run out to it and to Hanifaru Bay, where manta rays gather between July and October. Seven restaurants cover Japanese, Italian, and Arabian menus, alongside a beach club and a wine cellar. Javvu Spa runs from ten treatment pods and a jungle gym built with coconut-weight equipment.
