Construction started in 2016 under architect Gerhard Jooste of GJ Architects. Peter Ridge, known for his interpretation centre at Mapungubwe — declared Building of the Year at the 2009 World Architecture Festival — designed ten Earth Grotto suites positioned along the escarpment edge. The hotel is owned by Dr Reuel Khoza and Mumsy Khoza, both born in Mpumalanga; they opened the property on a ridge above Graskop after decades in Gauteng's corporate sector. Interior designer Donald Nxumalo wove Shangaan motifs through the public spaces, including Xibelani pendant lights and textiles that anchor the lounges and corridors. Eighteen Superior Rooms offer twin or king beds, bath and shower. Three Luxury Classic Suites add larger floor plans and upmarket finishes. The ten Earth Grotto suites employ rammed-earth walls and domed roofs — architectural techniques drawn from Timbuktu — that keep interiors cool in summer; deep verandas face the escarpment, and each suite includes an outdoor shower. One suite is wheelchair-accessible. Khoza House, a four-bedroom villa sleeping eight, perches on the gorge edge with a full kitchen, lounge, dining area, and braai terrace. Two Panorama Suites each hold one bedroom, a kitchenette, secure parking, and a private balcony. Mumsy's Restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner; Café Ahe operates from 08h00 to 20h00. A lap pool and main swimming pool overlook the escarpment. The Glass Marquee accommodates 350 guests for events; Evelyn's Chapel seats 100. The hotel won Luxury Scenic View Hotel and Luxury Country Hotel at the 2024 World Luxury Hotel Awards. The Graskop Gorge Lift — a glass elevator descending 51 metres into indigenous forest — stands three kilometres from the property.
