Angkor Village Hotel

Wood walkways cross ponds thick with lotus, linking room blocks built low among the gardens. Angkor Village Hotel is the work of a French-Cambodian architect couple, raised in 1994 as a study in Khmer form: pitched roofs, dark timber, carved detail. The Piot family has run it across two generations since, keeping the original layout largely intact. Rooms number 43 in total, from the 20 m² Petite, unchanged since its first fit-out, to a pair of 100 m² suites with private terraces and jacuzzi baths. Water View rooms sit upstairs behind floor-to-ceiling glass, looking over the central pond and pool. Garden View rooms stay at ground level, walled in by planting. All are finished in hardwood floors and local furnishings rather than standard hotel fittings. A restaurant occupies a pavilion at the centre of the pond, reached by a footbridge, and serves Khmer dishes drawn from historic recipes. Evenings often end at the Apsara Theatre next door, where a troupe of 30 dancers performs the Reamker legend in a building styled after the city's early 20th-century theatres. The Old Market is a five-minute walk; Angkor Archaeological Park is fifteen minutes by tuk-tuk. Wastewater on site is filtered and reused for the grounds, and the hotel runs its own plant nursery. It is a compact, low-rise stay built around water and shade rather than height.
