Anjajavy le Lodge sits at the tip of a peninsula on Madagascar's northwest coast, reachable only by air, with no road across the karst and forest that surround it. The lodge occupies fifteen hectares within a private reserve, bordered by mangroves and a stretch of protected coastline facing the water beyond. No road links it to anywhere else. Guests arrive by private plane from Antananarivo, landing on the lodge's own airstrip before a short drive through the forest to the villas.
The reserve holds dry deciduous forest classed a global conservation priority, along with baobabs, tsingy limestone formations, and mangrove channels that shelter fish, crustaceans, and birds. Sifaka lemurs move through the tree canopy around the lodge by day; nocturnal species take over after dark. Twenty-four rosewood villas line the main beach, each with a covered terrace facing the sea, a living area, and a bedroom on the ground floor. A Japanese staircase leads to an upper loft, which doubles as a study or a room for children. It is a quiet arrangement of wood and water. Marine turtles nest on the reserve's beaches each year, and the hatch runs guests can sometimes watch from the shore. A tidal creek system cuts through the mangrove nearby. The restaurant terrace looks over a pool that appears to run straight into the sea beyond.
