Ari Grand Hotel

Arriving by speedboat from Velana International Airport, guests reach Ari Grand after a crossing of about ninety minutes across South Ari Atoll. Seaplane and domestic flight routes via Maamigili island cut that time down, each ending with a short private boat transfer to Dhangethi. The island itself sits inside its own fringing reef, and the house reef is close enough for guests to snorkel straight from the beach. South Ari Atoll is one of the more reliable places in the Maldives to see whale sharks, and manta rays, turtles and reef sharks turn up on trips run through the year. The hotel keeps five room categories, from deluxe doubles to jacuzzi suites with balconies facing either sunrise or sea. Some rooms carry two balconies, one on each side of the island. A garden pool sits behind the beach. Zest Feast, the main restaurant, runs a multi-cuisine menu across breakfast, lunch and dinner sittings. Beyond the reef, the watersports centre organises diving, snorkelling and sunset fishing trips, with a captain and crew taking guests out to reef fishing grounds as the light drops. It is a straightforward base for island life on Dhangethi, built around water rather than around itself.
