Aroha Taveuni Resort

Aroha is named for the word for love, a name kept from the resort's earlier owners. It sits on the South Coast Road at Waiyevo, on Taveuni, the island Fiji calls its Garden Island for its rainforest and waterfalls. The property is deliberately small: two standalone bures, one split into two rooms and one into three, each with a private bathroom and outdoor shower. Louvered windows let the sea breeze through. The King Ocean View Bure suits couples or solo travellers, with a king bed, an outdoor kitchenette and a verandah facing the water. The Family bure sleeps larger groups across two interconnecting rooms. Both include air conditioning, a personal safe and daily continental breakfast at Kai Time, the on-site restaurant serving local dishes, burgers and woodfired pizza through the day. Waves are audible from the doorstep at night. Offshore lies the Somosomo Strait, known for soft coral, and the Rainbow Reef beyond it draws divers and snorkellers. Inland, guided walks reach the Tavoro Waterfalls in Bouma National Heritage Park, and the 180-degree Meridian runs through the island near the Waitavala rock slide. Guests can arrange boat trips, village visits with kava ceremonies, or a day on Koro Levu's sand. The pace at Aroha stays unhurried, built around the beach out front and whatever lies beyond it.
