Art Boutique Hotel Monopol
In St Moritz's pedestrian centre, colour and modern art fill sixty-seven rooms

Set with colourful, modern artworks through every corridor, Art Boutique Hotel Monopol treats each of its 67 rooms and suites as a small gallery wall. The effect is deliberate rather than decorative filler: bold canvases against plain furnishings, one piece per room, no two alike. Each room carries the practical basics — Wi-Fi, a minibar, television, hairdryer, safe and telephone — plain comforts kept out of sight of the art. The hotel stands in the pedestrian zone of St Moritz, close to shops, bars and restaurants, so guests can walk out the door straight into town. Downstairs, Restaurant MONO serves Italian dishes — gnocchi, risotto, a tableside Crepes Suzette — with wine from a cellar of around 250 labels. It is a compact, urban stay rather than a sprawling resort. On the roof, the sky bar looks down over the town and St Moritz lake, with a wide drinks list and a separate smokers' lounge below. The Wellavista spa sits over the rooftops too, with saunas, a steam room, plunge pool, ice fountain and Jacuzzi, plus a fitness room for those working off the mountain air. You can watch the light shift over the lake from the warm water at 32 degrees. Breakfast runs from an ample buffet each morning, cornetti included.
