Art Hotel 158

Guests arrive to a hotel where the corridors double as a gallery. Paintings, sculpture and ceramic pieces are placed through the public rooms and hallways of Art Hotel 158, most of them for sale to anyone who asks at reception. The building sits in central Sofia, a five-minute walk from Serdika metro station and within reach of the old town on foot. Rooms come in five configurations: double rooms with a queen bed, twin-bed doubles, three studios with a kitchenette, a two-storey loft, and an apartment with a separate lounge. Studios run to 27 square metres; standard doubles measure 22. The ground floor holds Rock Bar 158, stocked with over 8,000 vinyl records of rock and jazz, a stage rigged with original instruments, and a soundproofed room built for live sets, film nights, stand-up and karaoke. Next door, Art Galleria 158 seats up to 40 for exhibitions, book launches and business meetings, an extension of the same idea that runs through the rooms upstairs. A 24-hour reception covers arrivals at any hour, and Wi-Fi runs free throughout. Public parking sits 300 metres away, paid on site. It is a compact, art-filled base for exploring Sofia on foot or working through the day, with reasons to stay in after dark.
