ASURE Amalfi Motor Lodge Christchurch

Upper Riccarton, on the edge of Christchurch, is where Julie and Allan run this small motor lodge of 18 units, a mix of studios and one- and two-bedroom apartments. Sixteen come with a spa bath, a detail that sets Amalfi apart from the standard roadside motel. Double glazing keeps the rooms quiet despite the Main South Road address, and each unit is fully self-contained, with a kitchenette, stovetop, microwave, and fridge for guests cooking their own meals. The Standard Studio sleeps two on a king bed with a wet-floor shower; the Two-Bedroom Unit, at 49 square metres, sleeps five across a king, twin beds, and a single, with its own spa bath and dining area. Every room carries a flat-screen television with more than fifty Sky channels and unlimited Wi-Fi. Outside, a shared deck holds a barbecue for guests who want to eat in the courtyard rather than the kitchenette. It is a short drive to central Christchurch and to the airport, and supermarkets and restaurants sit within walking distance. Riccarton Racecourse is five minutes away by car, Addington Raceway ten.
