Atha Resort Sigiriya
Atha Resort is a village-themed hotel built at the foot of Sigiriya Rock, in the heart of Sri Lanka's Cultural Triangle. It stands close to the historic centre of Sigiriya, ringed by a forest reserve known for its wildlife, and the rock fortress itself rises just beyond the pool edge. Seven rooms make up the property, styled with a mix of modern boutique furnishing and older architectural touches, each set to face the surrounding habitat rather than away from it. The Deluxe Suite comes with a king bed, a private plunge pool, and a jacuzzi on its own terrace. Guests can watch the rock from a private patio. Rooms carry air conditioning, flatscreen TVs, and bathrooms with bidets and free toiletries. Sigiriya itself rises 370 m above sea level on a rock plateau formed from an extinct volcano, its summit holding the ruins of a palace, gardens, ponds, and a 5th-century water system; UNESCO listed it a World Heritage Site in 1982. The Dambulla cave temple, with over 80 caves and 153 Buddha statues, lies nearby, as does Pidurangala Rock, where King Kasyapa is said to have worshipped. Bird counts around Minneriya and Kaudulla National Parks run past 170 species, alongside elephants, leopards, and sloth bear. The resort's restaurant serves local and international dishes, and Wi-Fi runs free throughout.
