Atix Hotel

Atix Hotel is a glass tower set into the Andean valley on the edge of La Paz, its floor-to-ceiling windows framing the slopes of the Zona Sur. The building rises eight storeys in the Calacoto district, designed by New York architect Stuart Narofsky as a faceted glass form against the mountains. Local materials run through it: stone floors, ajo wood headboards from the Amazon, cowhide from Tarija. Its name means "the one who thrives" in Quechua, and it was the first hotel in Bolivia admitted to the Design Hotels portfolio. More than a hundred works by Bolivian artist Gastón Ugalde, sometimes called the Andean Warhol, line its corridors, rooms and public spaces, turning the hotel into a working gallery. Rooms range from a 28 m² Standard to the 56 m² Atix Suite, which has high ceilings, a separate living and dining room, a Jacuzzi and its own terrace. Several categories include private terraces and rain showers or bathtubs. On the seventh floor, 591 Bar pours cocktails built on native spirits, with the same Andean views stretched across the glass. You can see the surrounding peaks from nearly every room. Downstairs, the restaurant works from Bolivian ingredients with contemporary technique, part of a wider culinary shift in La Paz that has put the city on food-focused travel lists. A wellness area adds an infinity pool, sauna and treatment room.
