The hostel is a wooden-fronted building on the Esplanade Nathalie Sarraute, in the Halle Pajol eco-district of the 18th arrondissement. It is the only French youth hostel run entirely on solar power, fitted with photovoltaic and thermal panels, double-glazed windows, and a system that recovers heat from waste water. The Butte Montmartre and Sacré-Coeur rise a short walk away, reachable on foot through streets known for street art. It is a short stroll to Gare du Nord and Gare de l'Est, with direct trains from both Paris airports.
Rooms run from single beds to six-bed dorms, spread across 103 rooms and 332 beds. A library, an independent kitchen, and a relaxation room sit alongside a bar and a TV lounge. Bicycles have their own garage, in keeping with the hostel's Accueil Vélo certification for cyclists passing through. Outside, a water garden threads through the district, an unusual patch of green this close to the city centre.
The hostel holds the Green Key label for its environmental management, one of a small number of French hostels to do so. A supermarket sits 20 metres from the door. Guests can walk to Montmartre for an evening among its artists and steep lanes, then return to a building designed, from the ground up, to run on the sun.
