Auberge du Paradis

Auberge du Paradis is a former country house built of pale Beaujolais stone, set among vines in Saint-Amour-Bellevue. Farmhouse features sit against a contemporary interior, with old and new furniture placed side by side rather than matched. Thirteen guest rooms take their names from spices, among them Gingembre, Muscade, Cumin and Tandoori, and each has its own character; some open onto a private balcony, others look out toward the Mâconnais hills. A separate stone-built gîte offers a loft-style layout for guests wanting more space. Two kitchens run under one roof. Lucienne fait des siennes serves chef Cyril's own short, changing menu, built around regional produce and spice; Joséphine à Table keeps to slow-cooked, cast-iron family cooking in the style of a grandmother's kitchen. A walled garden shades the pool and terrace, giving the whole property a quiet, informal feel even at the height of summer. Breakfast is laid out with seasonal fruit, homemade jams and a soft-boiled egg served in its own bread case, taken by the fire or outside among the flowers. The house sits within reach of the Rock of Solutré, the Hameau du Vin and the Saône valley, making it a workable base for exploring the Beaujolais wine country.
