Bair's Lodge

Built in 1994 from a rundown house near Congo Town, Bair's Lodge began when its founders bought the property from a local owner and rebuilt it with local contractors mixing concrete by hand. The result was painted pink, faded, then repainted a deeper shade nicknamed bubblegum. It has stayed that colour since. Bought by Nervous Waters in the early 2000s, the lodge was expanded with a second storey, new kitchen and bar, and upgraded boats and gear, while keeping the Bair name and the pink walls as a nod to its founders. It sits on the eastern side of South Andros, between Deep Creek and Little Creek, twenty-five minutes by road from Congo Town airport. The setting is plantation-style, palm-shaded, and set directly on white sand. Guests can watch the ocean from the verandah with a drink from the honour bar. Inside, the living and dining rooms keep a plain, unfussy feel: sofas, books, and wide views of the water. An on-site angling shop stocks flies and tackle for the flats beyond the creeks, which run south and west toward some of the island's least fished water. It remains a working fishing lodge first, built around bonefish rather than spectacle, and its history is stitched into the paint on its walls.
