Balthazar Design Hotel
Set on Grodzka Street along Kraków's Royal Route, Balthazar Design Hotel occupies a townhouse whose plain façade gives little away. The building dates to the 1870s, raised over gate structures that trace back to the 16th century, and stands opposite St Martin's Church with the Baroque Saints Peter and Paul Church nearby. Inside, the mood shifts. Rooms mix eclectic furnishings, considered colour and close attention to detail, a style closer to boutique hotels in New York or London than to the old town outside. Fourteen room types range from a 15 m² Classic Single to a 50 m² Royal Suite with two rooms and views over Grodzka street. Deluxe doubles on the first and second floors look towards Wawel Royal Castle. The lobby is compact, under 50 m², which keeps arrival feeling more like a private house than a hotel. Downstairs, the restaurant Fiorentina serves Bistecca alla fiorentina from a charcoal grill, built on dry-aged, unprocessed local ingredients, and has held a Michelin Bib Gourmand award. You can walk to the castle in minutes. It is a quiet base for exploring the old town, not a spectacle in itself.
