Bastión is a 16th-century colonial mansion turned 51-room hotel, set inside Cartagena's walled old town near Santo Toribio and La Serrezuela. The building keeps its original bones: thick masonry walls, timber details, and courtyards that once served a very different city. Rooms vary in character, some built around old timber salvaged from the original structure, others opening toward sun and sea air, each reworked with contemporary furnishings and modern comforts like minibars and flat-screen TVs.
The rooftop is the hotel's clearest modern gesture: a pool and terrace on the fourth floor, looking over tiled colonial roofs to the city beyond. Below, El Gobernador serves Caribbean-rooted cooking under chef Sebastian Bocachica, while Bastión Bistro keeps things lighter, open from noon into the evening for terrace lunches and long dinners. A spa on site pairs regional treatments with standard massage and facial menus. Guests can also arrange transfers to Makani Beach Club along the coast.
