Bioma Boutique Hotel

Framed by red-tiled roofs and whitewashed walls, the terrace at Bioma looks over the historic centre of Mompox toward the Magdalena River. The hotel occupies a colonial house that has been restored and extended, its old wooden ceilings and courtyards kept intact alongside new plumbing, air conditioning and Wi-Fi. Downstairs, rooms border a garden and pool; upstairs, a Mansard Suite sits under original timber beams, lit by two small windows and shielded from any neighbouring room. Six room types range from a 22 m² Standard Double to a 44 m² Superior Quadruple, each fitted with an orthopaedic mattress, mini-fridge and rocking chair. Breakfast is included and served in the courtyard, with tropical fruit and Colombian coffee. It is a short walk to the town's main churches and its filigree workshops. In the evenings, guests gather at the jacuzzi or on the terrace, where the colonial rooftops turn amber at sunset. The hotel sits inside a UNESCO World Heritage site founded in 1537, a fact that shapes everything from the cobbled street outside to the thickness of its walls. You can hear the town's church bells from the pool deck. Mompox's isolation for much of the twentieth century, after the Magdalena River shifted course, kept its architecture largely unaltered — a circumstance Bioma now trades on, quietly, room by room.
