Bivouac Madu

The Erg Chebi dune sea rises just outside Merzouga, and Madu Premium Camp sits pitched within it, close to the village of Hassilabied. Eight Berber tents make up the camp, each with its own bathroom, set apart from a separate tent used for meals. The dunes themselves run high, some reaching 250 metres, and shift colour through the day, from deep orange at noon to pale pink toward evening. Guests can climb the dunes on foot or arrange a camel or 4x4 excursion into the wider desert, tracking further out toward nomad settlements and the market town of Rissani. It is a quiet stay by design. At night the camp turns dark enough for stars to dominate the sky, and guests often sit outside the tents to watch them rather than retreat indoors. Meals are served in the shared tent, with dishes drawn from the region's own kitchen traditions. The camp trades comfort for closeness to the dunes: there is no pool or spa here, only tents, sand, and the wide, star-heavy sky above the Erg Chebi.
