Bliss Riad

Tiled floors and carved wood frame the courtyard at Bliss Riad, set within the walls of the Medina near Jemaa el-Fnaa. The building is a working example of riad architecture: a central court open to the sky, rooms arranged around it, and a rooftop that climbs above the rest of the neighbourhood. From there, the Atlas Mountains show on a clear day, along with the palm groves of La Palmeraie and the packed rooftops of the old city. It is a compact stay. Nine rooms are split across three categories, Comfort, Deluxe and Executive, each named for a Moroccan word and each fitted with air conditioning and a heater against Marrakesh's swings in temperature. Interiors mix traditional patterned tile and woodwork with plainer modern surfaces, avoiding clutter. Guests can eat on the rooftop, where the kitchen serves breakfast, lunch and dinner à la carte, with the scent of spice in the air most evenings. A hammam and spa below the courtyard offer steam and traditional treatments, and a small pool sits within the riad's footprint. Reception runs long hours and staff handle transport, laundry and local arrangements without fuss, useful in a Medina where street names shift and directions get vague. The riad functions as a quiet base for walking to the souks and squares nearby, rather than a destination in itself.
