Blue Lagoon Bungalows

Built on a small motu off Maupiti and run by its owners as a family concern, Blue Lagoon Bungalows has grown a local reputation without ever growing large: five bungalows only, set along two stretches of white sand facing the lagoon. Each room sits either at the front beach or back in the garden, pairing timber and thatch construction with king-size beds, a private outdoor shower and a safe. The island itself has no fresh water source; what reaches the taps comes from rain or chilled tanks, and solar panels cover the property's power. That scarcity shapes the pace of a stay more than any amenity list. Meals run full board, built around grilled fish delivered daily by local fishermen, and the kitchen leans on Pacific staples like taro, breadfruit and banana alongside dishes drawn from wider international cooking. Days are loose: guided snorkelling over the coral garden, transparent kayaks across the shallows, or a climb up Mont Teurafaatiu for the view down over the reef. Manta rays pass through the lagoon most mornings, often within swimming distance of the beach. Boat transfers connect the bungalows to Maupiti's main island and airport daily, a fifteen-minute ride from the airstrip. Children under nine are not accepted.
